Halbergravia is a small, independent republic in the Eastern Territories of Liberalia. Originally established as a small trading post of the Empire of Gevon in 1099, Halbergravia remained a quiet, untouched island for centuries until just recently. When the Trodonians first arrived, the island was abandoned by most of the colonists who fled to other parts due to a plague that had been there a few years earlier but eventually the Trodonians went on to found their Imperium. Just recently, Halbergravia has become the new home of the Democratic Gevonians who did not want to be ruled by the Lord of Atholon, Verra, post 7th Gevon War.

These Gevonians tend to be rather radical in an economic sense, and their aggressive industrial policy has propelled the Halbergravian economy to new heights. At the same time, however, Gevonians are some of the most center-right when it comes to social rights. Social equality is on the government's agenda, along with increasing civil rights and political freedoms. Residents and visitors to Halbergravia enjoy a unique combination of cultures, moderate civil rights, and prospering markets.

Due to the threats around Halbergravia from the Atholonians, the Interim Government has been forced to initiate the Fortification Act which is in its pure form: martial law. Since the Republic only has a small professional militia to protect it, should they be brought into a conflict, all males between the age of 18-25 will be called to war. Halbergravia's birth rate and death rate are roughly the same but the Law of Decipherability has also been put into effect. According to this rule, a body interred in a cemetery stays there until the carvings on their headstone can no longer be read, at which point it is assumed that anyone who would wish to visit the grave is long gone. Then the body is exhumed, reburied in a mass grave elsewhere, and a new body may be interred in the same plot.

[edit] People and Culture

Halbergariva Gevonaians are mainly made up of a mix Anglo-Saxon and Dutch ethnicities, both groups being hardworking and determined in their resolve to finish whatever task they are given. The life expectancy of the citizenry is around 74 for males and 77 for females as the best medicinal staff left Gevon to continue their practice in Halbergravia. The nation's culture is a combination of nationalism and conservativism and as such, they are highly suspicious of other cultures, races, creeds, and ethnicities. Much of the educational focus in Halbergravia is on the humanities, arts, sciences and history. Although society is very much forward-looking, these Gevonians still retain an affection for national culture and national ceremonies.

The Government does not condone or condemn any religion, as freedom of religion is paramount in the National Charter of Rights. About two-thirds to three-quarters of citizen are religious. 70% of the nation follows catholicism, while another 20% follow the numerous denominations of protestantism, but dominantly Lutheran in terms of the Dutch ethic group. The remaining 10% follow other religions including Judaism and Islam.

Holidays in Halbergravia are very special as Gevonians celebrate them with massive fanfare. Major holidays include New Years (January 1st), Easter (April 13th), Victory Day (July 1st) and Christmas (December 25th). Victory Day is the most important day in all of Halbergravia as it is the birthday of the country and massive festivals are widespread with military parades and musical performances.

Languages of Halbergravia are diverse. The official languages that all citizens are taught is the primary language of all Gevonians, Gevonaak, French and English. Unofficial languages that are spoken by citizenry and not used by the government is Trodonian however the government primarily works and speaks Gevonaak.

Each part of the Halbergravian flag has a meaning. The blue field represents the Eastern Sea. The white field represents the purity and pride of the Halbergravian people while the green field represents the nation's natural beauty and wealth. The field that is red represents the hope of the people. The sun symbolizes the bright future the island republic has.
