Part 1:

Every major power in the region knew that the two largest superpowers - the totalitarian Caldari State and the democratic Grand Republic of Latagon - were inevitably going to be locked in conflict but no one knew when it occur or where it would begin. It was a dark time for the world - nations were struggling to rebuild after the collapse of the last economic depression and of numerous petty wars and skirmishes throughout the world. Everyone thought it would finally bring peace; they were wrong. Latagonian intelligence had recieved many a report about the State's massive reconstruction efforts - both militarily and economically - and Prime Minister Peterson knew she had to be ready but when? Latagonian forces were scattered all over the world, aiding her allies in the reconstruction of their nations but she was unprepared for the strike that happened.

It happened all in an instant, Supreme Overlord Tovil-Toba in an effort to show the force and capability of the State, launched an oppressive seven-prong offensive on Latagonian territories ranging from Latagonia in the west to Fallathon in the east and as far north as Shade. Caldari naval flotillas blocked key naval ports and bomber squadrons bombed numerous tracts of valuable land without hindrance until Prime Minister Peterson realized that the inevitable had arrived on her doorstep, mere weeks after her election. Only after a day into the war, the Latagonians were put in an tight situation - with their forces scattered and her home forces short - Peterson was forced into an awkward defensive war against the State all every side. However Latagonia had always been proven to be a tough nut to crack, was naturally able to hold out long enough until they were able to fight offensively against her aggressors.

After a week of intense defensive battles in Shade, Kay's Port, Lee's Port and the cities of the Lower Latagonian Provinces consisting of Burkidia; Caldari forces were for the first time put in their awkward positions. Scattered due to poor logistics and the unexpected military aid by her allies in the south. Supreme Overlord Tovil-Toba, enraged by this, reorganized his strategy by removing his forces from the South and instead reassigned them to more important objects: the Latagonia theatre, the naval blockades and the hunting down of important Latagonian supply convoys. However Peterson's ace in the hole finally appeared - the Latagonian Armada had finally been freed from its deadlocks at Kay's and Lee's Ports and was finally en route to engage the already stretched Caldari Navy. Both navies engaged in the Sea of Azym, where the Latagonians superior naval superiority swept aside Tovil-Toba's fleet. With the rout of his navy, the Supreme Overlord would not let the pestering Imperialists take shots at his goals any longer and finally ordered the full invasion of the Latagonian territories. Numerous CPLA armies landed in Latagonia, Hasadon, Patagon and Fallathon, all determined to capture key populations.

Of all the important battles of the war, Latagon City was the most deadly. Caldari stormtroopers at first had the advantage of surprise and were able to take control of the majority of the capital after two days of intense hand-to-hand combat but at great cost. Over 250,000 CPLA soldiers over that short period of time gave their lives in the hope to crush the morale of the Latagonian people. While they had captured the Veranda, the heart of the Republic, they only held onto it by a thread. Latagonian snipers had finally caught up with the CPLA 1st Army Expedition and slowly picked off the defenders one by one. The CPLA 4th Army, after the third day, arrived. They entered the city, only to see dead bodies of Caldari and Latagonian alike - with buildings leveled and the bits and pieces of shattered grenades and rockets. By the end of that week, the commanding officer, Ko, was ordered Caldari High Command to withdraw from Latagon City and make a march on Patagon City in a last ditch effort to end the war.

What is there to say about the Patagon City Raid? It was an utter failure. While Ko was able to disable many of the harbor's protective guns, enough remained in place to keep Caldari reinforcements from approaching, forcing the CPLA to make a further rout. Supreme Overlord Tovil-Toba would not accept any further defeats and ordered all remaining forces to maintain "a line in the sand" on the Jacinto Plateau north of the Latagonian border. Only pain, suffering and death followed them. General Roberts, the self-proclaimed hero of the Latagonian offensive had followed them since their withdrawal from Latagon City and had finally caught up with the CPLA in the hills of Jacinto but he was unaware of the battlefield. Caldari forces had severely built up this plateau with enough weaponry aimed at them that it would be futile to fight it out. Instead, the Latagonians entrench themselves some distance from the Caldari positions and a stalemate began. Only time would tell how long each side would live with death sitting over its head. And yet, remarkably, the stalemate ended a month later.

Most would have assumed that the Latagonians would have been declared the victors of the war but in all reality - the two nations remain in a state of war - because the fighting only ceased with the acknowledgment of an armistance between the two sides. From that forward, the Caldari State and the Grand Republic of Latagon have maintained a tense guard on the Jacinto Demilitarized Zone, where both sides maintain a joint security zone at Kildor Bridge (also known as the Bridge of No Return) and only a single tiny incident could ignite both sides into conflict once again.

A single incident did come around two months later, with Imperial Union operatives trying to ignite the battle. Luckily calm minds prevailed, and the conflict was avoided. An edict was issued after the conflict with "Ask questions first, shoot later." as one of it's core values. This edict became one of the core factors in stopping a conflict from rising between the two, without first diplomacy taking place.
