Rules of The Scholar’s Game

Players take it in turns to compose an alphabetical series of entries

  1. On their Main Turn, the Players create a Main Entry, following the Main Entry Rules
  2. The player designates another topic mentioned in their main entry as a phantom entry bolding it and listing it on the Game page with the note "Phantom" afterward
  3. The other Players each then create a Footnote disputing, commenting, or expanding on the the Main Entry, following the Footnote Rules
  4. Once each Player has composed a Footnote, the next Player creates a Main Entry using either a blank letter or a phantom entry, and the game rolls on.

Main Entry Rules

  1. Approx 100-200 words about a topic that begins with a Chosen letter or Phantom Entry. (If you chose a Phantom Entry, remove the word Phantom from the Game Page when you are done.
  2. Must follow Subject Rules

Footnote Rules

  1. Approx 50-100 words that disputes, refutes or otherwise expands with the content of the Main Entry
  2. Sign the footnote with your characters name.
  3. If you are writing the last (5th) footnote, send an email when you are complete to everyone that the next person (name them) may take their turn. The order of turns is on the Game Page.

Subject Rules Four categories of Subject matter are recognised for Entries; People Objects Places Ideas or Abstracts

Wiki Layout

  1. As preferred by the GM, but it is best if the Main Entry & Footnotes form a single page

Timeframe We need to discuss this rule at: Talk:Lexicon_Rules or click on the discussion tab (above).

As required, but a fast turnaround is recommended. Ideally, you want two or three Main Entries each week, if not more. Negotiate a suitable creation speed with the Players. To speed the process, you can decide that so long as the previous Main Entry has at least one Footnote, then the next Main Entry can be created.
