Check to see if she's alright

You move closer to your mother's body. A strange scent hits you like a cold, hard wind. It reeks as if you had found rotten prey, but it has a fresh tang to it, as if the smell was quite recent. You move closer, and you feel something splash around your paws, staining them red.
Red? Why red?
You lift a jet-black paw to your nose, and take a deep sniff. Oh know, this was blood!
Startled, you push past your siblings, and race to your mother's side. Blood, sticky and wet, is pouring out from many wounds in your mother's pelt.
"No, please, wake up!"
You cry this out, desperate in hope that your mother will awaken. Bu, she does not move. You nudge her quite hard with your nose, but the shape remains still. You...
