The Plot

Harkha chooses to retire from his role as Lord Toa, feeling no longer worthy of the honour. In spite of Governor Arukka's attempts at dissuasion, he follows through, designating Dreiken as his successor to the role. The appointment ceremony is held in the Port Spirit Temple, with a crowd of thousands from the city and its surrounds.

Presentation

In a first for the Saga, the work of Turaga Dlakii in general, and comics in Artwork III overall, Ascension was presented as an animated featurette replete with voice-acting. The intention was to use the chapter as a testing ground for future use of animation in the Saga, such as in The Unknown Turaga: Ultimatum at Mangaia.

Characters

  • Arukka (voiced by Turaga Dlakii)
  • Harkha (voiced by DudeNuva)
  • Dreiken (voiced by Lai: Toa of Shadows)
  • Lai (voiced by Lai: Toa of Shadows)
  • Dlakii (voiced by Turaga Dlakii)
  • DudeNuva (voiced by DudeNuva)

Numerous other characters appeared, with no speaking roles; many of these were new characters with roles in future parts of the Saga.

Trivia

  • Ascension is, by far, the worst-received work of any kind Turaga Dlakii has ever produced, with a fair amount of somewhat negative reviews. Most of the criticisms were concerned with the lacklustre voice-acting work, which will be rectified in later instalments.
