Governor Robert Hudson

Robert Hudson was elected Governor of the Northeast in 2008 and then re-elected in 2010 as a Democrat. However, following a failed bid for President he spoke at the Republican Convention that year where he attacked the Democratic Party for not allowing its member to "advocate for small government, or to support real actions to defend America" [1]. He subsequently left the Democratic Party, sitting as an independent, but was considered and treated as a de facto Republican.

Anger at Hudson was high amongst Democrats, and was a contributing factor to the large field of Democrats who ran in the 2014 primary. It was also a likely contributing factor in Hudson's decision to not seek re-election in 2014.
