The '''Northeast gubernatorial election of 2014''' was held on November 4, 2014. [[James Stewart]] won the election with 63% of the vote, and will serve a four year term between 2015 and 2018. Stewart defeated [[Senator]] [[Roland Scott]] and [[House of Representatives|Congresswoman]] [[Caroline Westman]] in the Democratic primary and then Regional Minority Leader [[Chris Waugh]] in the [[United States gubernatorial elections, 2014|general election]].

===Democratic Party===

* [[Falnor Urthadar]] - [[Congressman]] from [[Massachusetts]] since 2011, Urthadar withdrew from the race before the primary was held.
* [[Roland Scott]] - [[New York]] [[Senator]] since 2009, elected as a [[Republican]] then becoming a [[Democrats]] in 2011, Scott was the front runner going into the primary.
* [[James Stewart]] - [[Northeast]] Lieutenant Governor since 2013, Stewart was the winner of the Democratic Primary.
* [[Caroline Westman]] - [[Congresswoman]] from [[New York]] since 2012, Westman was considered a dark horse in the primary.

===Republican Party===

* [[Joseph Salazar-Portela]] - [[New England]] [[Senator]] and [[Republican]] candidate for Governor, Portela withdrew from the race a short period into the campaign.
* [[Chris Waugh]] - [[Northeast]] minority leader and initially Portela's running mate, Waugh became the [[Republican]] candidate when Portela pulled out of the race.

==Governor Robert Hudson==

[[Robert Hudson]] was [[United States gubernatorial elections, 2010|elected Governor of the Northeast in 2008]] and then [[United States gubernatorial elections, 2010|re-elected in 2010]] as a [[Democrat]]. However, following a failed [[Democratic Party presidential primaries, 2012|bid for President]] he spoke at the [[2012 Republican National Convention|Republican Convention]] that year where he attacked the Democratic Party for not allowing its member to "advocate for small government, or to support real actions to defend America" [http://caldwellsusgs.com/USGS/index.php?s=&showtopic=13655&view=findpost&p=178534]. He subsequently left the Democratic Party, sitting as an independent, but was considered and treated as a de facto [[Republican]].

Anger at Hudson was high amongst Democrats, and was a contributing factor to the large field of Democrats who ran in the [[Democratic Party primary, Northeast gubernatorial election, 2014|2014 primary]]. It was also a likely contributing factor in Hudson's decision to not seek re-election in 2014.
