George Jameson is the Senior Senator from the Wabash Valley. He's also the Senate Majority Whip/Assistant Majority Leader. Before being elected to the Senate, he served as a Congressman and Mayor of Chicago.
Brief Biography
George Jameson, a Democrat from Illinois, represents the Wabash Valley in the United States as its senior senator. Jameson was born May 22nd, 1952 in Chicago Illinois. In high school Jameson excelled in Speech and Debate, Young Democrats, and Student Government.
After high school Jameson attended the University of Chicago-Illinois. He graduated with honors with a major in international affairs and a minor in pre law. After undergraduate school he went to Harvard Law school and graduated successfully.
Upon leaving Harvard he was accepted into the U.S. Army as a Ranger. He worked his way up to Major in the U.S. Army Rangers before retiring to return to Chicago. Jameson, by this time, had a reputation as a professional military man and distinguished lawyer. He was elected Mayor in 1997 and serve in that position for 7 years.
After serving Chicago as its mayor, he was elected to Congress as a member of the House. There he served 6 years. In 2010 he was elected U.S. Senator, defeating Republican Congressman Marsalis by 6% of the vote. He was elected Whip of the Democratic Caucus and served on the Foreign Relations, Intelligence and Defense Committee, as well as the Government Relations and Commerce Committee.
Jameson was active during the 2012 elections, campaigning for Democrats such as Representative Eric Smith and Governor Jimmy Kennedy in the Midwest. The Senator also campaigned for the successful Cullen-Francis ticket. He was re-elected Whip of the Democratic Caucus unanimously. In late 2013 the senator's nephew, then-Congressman Alex Jameson was appointed to fill the vacated senate seat of Olude Carter. This marks the first time in the history of the Senate that a nephew and uncle have served together. As of date he serves as a Senior member on the Government Relations and Commerce Committee.
