Unitarianism

From Unawiki

Unitarianism is a Christian theological movement that established in the United States in the late 17th century after it emerged in 16th century’s Europe. It understands God as one person, in contrast to Trinitarianism. Due to strict monotheism, Jesus is seen as a prophet but not as a part of God himself. Furthermore, it rejects the original sin and predestination and, therefore, belongs to the more liberal family of churches. It was compatible to the philosophical movement of transcendentalism that emphasizes human self-sufficiency and closeness to nature; Ralph Waldo Emerson and Theodore Parker were both transcendentalists and unitarianists. Also the two Presidents John Adams and John Quincy Adams were unitarianists. The movement is still present in the United States in associations like the UUCF or AUC.
