• Jean suffers a mental breakdown after murdering 2 soldiers of the Weapon X group that attack the school.

• The decommissioned Weapon X soldiers are completely cut off from their financial backers.

• The X-Men (minus Jean Grey) arrive to combat the soldiers; their leader kills all of her men and herself in order to keep the X-Men from learning anything.

• The X-Men meet S.H.I.E.L.D. Mutant Ops Commander Dugan who chides them for being rash and giving the government no opportunity to discover the treasonous financial backers behind the Weapon X soldiers.
