Wiki Moderator

From Tribewanted

This page has information about how to perform the role of a Wiki Moderator.

The job is pretty easy -- you don't need any special technical skills and you don't need a special admin password. The idea is to do a quick review of all changes made to the Wiki in the previous day. That way, we can make sure the Wiki contents meet with the Wiki Guidelines and that no vandalism has occurred.

Here is how to do the job:

Review changes / additions

Each day, click the "Special Pages" link in the toolbox shown on the left side of the Wiki page. Click the "Recent changes" link on that page. This will show you a chronological history of all changes made to the Wiki. You will only need to review those changes that have occurred since your last review.

By clicking the topic name on the Recent Changes page, you can go and take a look at a modified page. You can also click the History tab at the top if you want to compare the page to an older version, in case it's not clear what was changed. Read the Wiki history tab for details on how this works.

You should be familiar with the Wiki Guidelines. Verify that any new additions comply with those guidelines. In particular, check:

  • that no controversial material has been placed on the Wiki
  • that no email addresses, phone numbers or other personal information are disclosed. If you find any, just replace them with text that says "(deleted)"
  • that text formatting is OK, particularly any hyperlinks

Update the What's New page

If you read the discussion forum, you may run across some news that would be a good addition to the What's New page. Update the What's New page if you find something newsworthy (obviously, observe the Wiki Guidelines.) If you don't have time for this aspect of Wiki Moderation, that's fine. Tribe members are supposed to do these updates as well.

Depending on how much activity the Wiki has received that day, Wiki Moderation can take from 1 minute to several minutes. If you are not able to check every day, that's OK also. If you find yourself not able to keep up, please ask for help!

Thank you for helping out the tribe with your valuable time.
