Tikina

From Tribewanted

Tikina is a Fijian word for village council. In Tribewanted context, the word refers to a committee that consists of a group of tribe members orgainized for a specific task. Information about each Tribewanted Tikina can be found in Vorovoro development.

Role

The role of each to Tikina is to summarise all relevant discussions online and organise this information so that it can be turned into a vote or an action.

Elders

  • Each Tribal Tikina has one elder – the Tikina members will decide who is the elder.
  • The elders role is to co-ordinate all relevant information and feedback to Bengazi, and the Island Tikina (Elected chief and permanent island team) on a weekly basis. Information will then be uploaded online and into newsletters.
  • The Elders reward for their input will be tribal recognition and pride in what they have achieved for the tribe!

Size & Structure

  • There is no limit to the numbers in each Tikina –anyone who would like to get involved can. If, however, 50 people want to join 1 Tikina, then it might be sensible that only 10 at a time can be involved and this rotates monthly (5 in, 5 out). It is up to each to Tikina to work this out.
  • Tikina members and elders can join and leave Tikinas as they wish
  • New Tikinas can be formed and old ones can be dismantled. The tribe should aim to have no more than 12 Tikinas at any one time, to keep numbers communicating with the island tikina to a minimum and thus creating the ideal tribal tikina pyramid (this is Vorovoro’s Leviathan)!

Being on a Tikina or becoming an elder requires different levels of responsibility (ie: Island, chiefs, dream foundation require lots of responsibility) but the main thing is that people get involved for short periods of time because they want to move the project forward.
