From Tribewanted

Thursday 25th May NYC. NBC. USA. – tribewanted heads to America!

USA This is it - its showtime! This Friday we head to New York City, to the bright lights of Times Square, to crane our necks against the towering skyline and shout above the din of downtown traffic and ninja turtles…’JOIN OUR TRIBE!’ For Christopher Columbus it was a destination, for the Arctic Monkeys it was an elevation, so will NYC be the gateway to global tribalisation? Follow this critical moment in tribewanted’s evolution live here on the NYC blog from Friday. Bula to the Big Apple, here we come…

NYC Meet the Chief. Learn about the tribe. Have a drink with current and future tribe members. This Friday night tribewanted hits NYC. This is a one off opportunity to get tribal downtown…

NBC With a tribewanted film due to be aired on Friday’s Today Show on NBC between 7am and 8am eastern be sure set your skyplus/download/record…for this is the moment things speed up. Following the show Bengazi will be spending a week interviewing for newspaper, magazine, radio and TV which we hope will spread the tribal word like wildfire across the global networks to those that dare to dream in every corner of the earth.

Tribewanted couple flip a coin and become Hunters That’s just what tribe members 354 and 355 did! A strange series of coincidences led Amanda Avens and husband Jim to their first Tribal Gathering last weekend. After reading the Metro article about tribewanted on Amanda's commute to work and then hearing a BBC Radio 2 interview with Chief Bengazi, the couple decided to flip a coin…the result? The Avens are now proud Hunter tribal members. Amanda and Jim are about to emigrate to Australia so thought it would be a great experience to add to their life-changing adventure in which they plan to cycle round OZ before settling in Perth.

"We then heard about the tribal gathering in Devon and by coincidence, that weekend, we were staying with Jim's parents who live a couple of miles from Woolacombe Beach. From one beach to another – this is the start of our journey!”

The pair hopped in their Bug on Saturday morning and arrived to meet the tribal team where we all swapped stories and ideas about Tribewanted. The Avens' will be keeping a blog of their cycling trip and invite other tribe members to keep up to date with their adventure: www.avensdownunder.com

Introducing new tribal team members…

Helen Lang – Sustainable Community Advisor

The place and its people make the difference between a nice holiday and the trip of a lifetime, so it makes sense to invest in the future to ensure that it is as unspoilt and welcoming for visitor number 5000 as it was for number one. So members of tribewanted have to take a shared responsibility to make sure Adventure Island works for all!

As the founder of Global Sense, Helen has worked in various universities in the UK running workshops on sustainable development in tourism. She works with charities, local community groups and NGOs, raising the profile of economically viable and sustainable tourism that benefits local communities. Helen is looking forward to bringing this experience to the team as their Sustainable Communities Advisor.

Ulai Baya – Fijian Community Manager

By being both the nephew of Tui Mali (Island Chief) and having grown up on Vorovoro, Ulai is intrinsically connected to the heart of the tribewanted project. A trained lawyer who has practised in Scotland as well as Australia, Ulai is one of the few people who really appreciates what we are trying to achieve both on a global and a local scale with the tribewanted. Ulai’s role in this important development stage is, alongside Helen, to make sure the voice of the Mali community is represented in the decision making process as well as facilitating all the practical issues on the ground in Fiji. A big fan of rugby, Ulai is most likely to be seen in a skin-tight English Rugby shirt arguing about who really is the best player on the team…
