From Tribewanted

Tribal news 28/6/06 Online tribal community launches!

On Tuesday evening we at last launched the tribewanted online community! Tribe members can now log-on to their own private community where they can:

Create profiles and upload pics Join groups Chat with friends Book their time and on the island & special tribe-rate flights to Fiji Discuss and vote on tribal issues Read more about the island experience Watch the tribe grow > tribal map

As this community grows and more features are added - tribelogs, tribal tv, weekly voting, community building designs and so on - it will become the head quarters for all things tribewanted. With just over 2 months before the island community begins in Fiji this is a big step forwards for the tribe and towards island life!

National Geographic to follow tribewanted

"This September, when the first tribe members arrive on the island, National Geographic Adventure magazine will send Contributing Editor James Vlahos to Fiji to cover the Tribewanted story as it unfolds. " National Geographic Adventure Magazine

One of our favourite magazines, Nat Geo featuring tribewanted will be a dream come true!

Fiji Visitors Bureau joins the tribe

Since our first trip to Fiji we have been in constant contact with both the Native Land Trust Board and the Fiji Islands Visitors Bureau (FVB), who have been supporting tribewanted’s progress and making sure we are doing things the Fijian way! We are very pleased to announce that the FVB are now official partners of tribewanted, which means that they will be actively supporting the tribe with both online advice about visiting Fiji and helping out with our operations on the island itself. Big Bula to the FVB!

Jane West, Head of UK & Ireland Fiji Islands Visitors Bureau:

"The Fiji Visitors Bureau is extremely excited to be supporting tribewanted's ground-breaking project off the north coast of Vanua Levu. Fiji is the perfect destination for this social and environmental adventure and we know how excited the people of the Mali district are about tribewanted. We will be providing tribe members with information about Fiji, its culture, climate, people and, of course, its islands. Tribewanted is going to play an important part in two of our core aims at the FVB: To alleviate poverty and to generate sustainable tourism in rural areas. This is fantastic! The whole of Fiji is buzzing with excitement at the prospect of tribewanted starting in September - this will be an historic moment for Fiji and, we hope, for fairly traded tourism."

Tribe go camping…

Over the weekend of 23rd - 25th of June tribewanted members arranged their own camping weekend, in what seems to have been a weekend of partying, walking, kareoke and kava drinking, ultimately fun was had by all. We bring you highlights of the tribal camping weekend, in their own words...

"As is turning out to be usual with this little project we have got involved in only one word really serves to describe the first tribal camp 'awesome' " John Wright
