Tribewanted - Vorovoro : news, views and decisions

As we see tribewanted move forward we have been trying to effectively manage the communication of voting, decision making and new developments to all tribe members. We have therefore decided to launch a weekly e-mail that is specifically for tribe members (as opposed to the general e-mail that goes out to our entire database). The purpose of this e-mail is to encourage ideas to arise, decisions get made and see voting take place in order for tribewanted - Vorovoro to grow and develop. Here is this weeks news and information:

Accommodation: The Great Bure

Chief Bengazi is on the ground in Fiji and decisions have to be made about what sort of accommodation we require. We are looking for accommodation that will house the first footers and will also be a central meeting place. From this initial basis we would look to develop other forms of accommodation. From the ground in Fiji, Tui Mali and his tribe have come up with a solution that they would like to put to the tribe: The Great Bure.

Ben's message from Fiji states:

"It has been suggested by Tui Mali and the local community (as well as other advisors in Fiji) that the best way to start our tribal village would be by building a large Fijian style Bure from local materials. I have had another meeting this afternoon with Tui Mali about this idea - he has even supplied some 'artist impressions' of what this Bure might look like. Remember Fijian craftsman are not trained architects, the designs are in their heads! The results are always amazing. I think this would be an amazing way to start the project; the indigenous tribe showing us the way in terms of design and construction and our first footers helping with the process.

If we want to go with the Great Bure this is the timeline:

Thursday 27th July: Bengazi to meet with Tui Mali and heads of all the Mali villages to discuss sourcing of materials and work force. Agreement is made between Mali communities and tribewanted about the project.

August: Mali communities to collect materials and transport to Vorovoro.

September: Great Bure construction takes place with first footers with the aim to complete by the end of September.

Payment: The payment would be arranged and agreed between tribewanted and Tui Mali. Because the Great Bure would be a community project it would mean that the money is shared between all of the villages. It would not go into individual pockets, rather it would be used by the communities for local projects (school/church building or repairs).

Why the Great Bure?

At this point it is difficult for tribe members to get a good idea of the space we have on Vorovoro to develop. This will improve when we have broadband on the island and can show the area more clearly through webcasts. It will also improve when we have the first tribe members visiting the island and seeing what we can achieve. I will do my best until that point to communicate what there is. However, in the meantime I think this is a good way to start things. The Great Bure will be a symbol for the start of the project - the start of a partnership between an indigenous tribe and a global 21st century tribe (that's us in case anyone is getting confused!) It immediately gives the Mali people a sense of ownership in what we are doing and it immediately makes tribewanted: Vorovoro a community project. Once the Great Bure is in place we can then relax a bit more (knowing we have shelter) and bring in all these creative ideas about eco-tree-loft-pods and cave-lovers-hideaways. We will have learnt from the Mali people and then perhaps we can start showing them what other ideas are out there.

Because of the issue of time line here we are opening voting on this matter. There are two responses that you can choose from: 'Yes, let's go for it' or 'No, let's think about this more'. If the majority votes for the second option we will be looking to the tribe to come up with ideas to solve this initial accommodation problem. We would require these ideas fast, but it can be done.

If you would like to discuss our accommodation with other tribe members please head over to the accommodation discussion Go to: http://community.tribewanted.com/forumcomm/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=132

Closing Date: Voting will close at midnight (GMT) Monday 31st July.

October Chief nominations

We have had to extend the time for nominations for October Chief as we received no nominations. We are really looking for an October Chief who Warren can hand over too. Remember the 12 Chief's don't all have to be builders! After the building of the accommodation in September we are looking for a creative October Chief who will come in with fresh eyes and help us dream and plan some of the activities and adventure that could happen on the island. We would also be looking for this Chief to help liaise with the native Fijians as to how we can make a positive impact through our voluntary work on the Island.

Could you be the October Chief? If so, please send in your manifestation and Chief-cast to admin at tribewanted.com. For further information please take a look at 'The 12 Chief's page' Go to: http://community.tribewanted.com/page/view.rails?id=The%2012%20Chiefs

Closing Date: Closing date for nominations is midnight (GMT) Monday 31st July

Sanitation

Discussion is currently taking place over what sanitation we should have on the island. We have an expert team of self titled, 'Toilet Members' who are researching all things 'toilets'. What sort of toilets do you want? Are we happy with basic sanitation or do you require something lavish? Have you done some research on toilets (yikes!) that you could bring to the tribe? Remember, we are looking for eco-friendly toilets. If you have something to add to this discussion please head over to the sanitation discussion: Sanitation Discussion Go to: http://community.tribewanted.com/forumcomm/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=133

Closing Date: Closing date for sanitations suggestions is midnight (GMT) on Monday 31st July (we will then take this to vote)

Tribal T-shirts

Not only are tribe members going crazy for tribal t-shirts but so are the people are Fiji. We wanted the tribe to design the next batch and then vote upon the designs that you want to wear! We have had some excellent designs through from Charlotte but we would like to put out a second call from artists, designers and those who just have a great idea for a t-shirt. We want to hear from you. Please e-mail you design ideas to admin at tribewanted.com

To see some of Charlotte's designs, go here: http://www.tribewanted.com/newsletter-25-07-06-community/

Closing Date: Closing date for Tribal T-shirt designs is midnight (GMT) on Monday 31st July (we will then take this to vote)

It's time for the tribe to decide,
