Islamic Republic of Iran Air Defence Forces

The Islamic Republic of Iran Air Defence Forces is the service in the armed forces of Iran responsible for fixed, ground-based air defence. It was formed recently from ground-based air defence units of the Islamic Republic of Iran Air Force, and retains close links to it, and the Air Force of the Army of the Guardians of the Islamic Revolution.

It is organised on a site-to-site bases, and defends the following types of site:

  • Major cities (such as Tehran, and Isfahan)
  • Ports
  • Airports
  • Nuclear sites
  • Major industrial sites
