"Over here"

From The Extended Group

The Over here phenomenon (interchangeably, "is over here")is an online taunt, used in jest typically between Kevin and Nathan on AOL Instant Messenger.

"Over here" Origin

Since the saving of IM Conversations is at this point a rather desultory form of historical documentation, it is difficult to determine exactly the first instance of the "Over here" claim. In a basic sense, the content of an "Over here" statement starts with Party A letting Party B know, in the form of a playful gibe, that Person X is "over here"--that is, in the presence of Party A. While rarely containing any political or personal venom, "Over here" serves the unexpressed purpose of instigating the memory of a humorous or obscure character in the individual's memory (a figure that, in some cases, has played a pertinent role in Group history as well). Here are some examples:

  • Kza4: the Kwakwaka'wakw people are here, along with Tracy Morgan, Will Sasso and a naked greek guy with the head of an extremely sharp knife
  • Nathan Sikov: sway is over here
  • Kza4: who else?
  • Nathan Sikov: ronnell
  • Nathan Sikov: the little filipino kid from einstein
  • Nathan Sikov: rory gadzuk too
  • Kza4: the never again bat is here
  • Nathan Sikov: ray sanders' closet bed is here

"Over here" Memes and Appearances

As evidenced above, there is a definite tendency to use gimmickized categorizations of individuals or symbols.

  • Ridiculous TV personalities (ie Tracy Morgan, Will Sasso, Sway, and in one memorable case "Goo" from the short-lived mid-90s Nickelodeon TV series "My Brother and Me")
  • Ridiculous former acquaintances/students (ie. "Ronnell", Rory Gadzuk)
  • Ridiculous concepts associated with individual members of exchanging parties (Nathan: a naked greek guy with the head of an extremely sharp knife; Kevin: the Kwakwaka'wakw people)
  • Ridiculous icons associated collectively between exchanging parties (The Never Again Bat, Ray Sanders' closet bed)
