Memphis Smoke

From Stripespedia

Memphis Smoke was a bar and barbeque joint in downtown Royal Oak, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit. It seems the general consensus of Memphis Smoke is that their barbeque was shit that tasted like ass, but the live blues music and drinks were fantastic. Nevertheless, it had a place in the hearts of many, many Detroit locals.

Meg White worked here as a day bartender for roughly two years during the formation and first performances of The White Stripes, up until the recording of De Stijl. Legend has it that this is the place where Meg met Jack White, and history was made. Years later, Jack's brief girlfriend Renée Zellweger occasionally dropped by for carry-out, if that's of any importance at all.

The place closed in late 2010. Former general manager and part-owner of the bar, John McFarlen, passed away around the same time. It's since been (or currently is being) razed over for a new business.
