The Encyclopedia Alchema contains a grand repository of alchemical lore compiled from the writings of scores of expert alchemists. The knowledge is so comprehensive that no one practitioner has ever mastered all of it, and study of the book would be the work of a lifetime. The Encyclopedia Alchema includes:
- Descriptions of the formulae and procedures necessary to create every known alchemical substance;
- A discussion on the assembly of alchemical laboratories of various levels of complexity, from a basic traveling kit to a complete facility;
- Descriptions of the tools to be found in an alchemist's inventory, with their usual applications and instructions on usage;
- Descriptions of alchemical reagents, including instructions on harvesting, storage, handling and usage;
- Instructions regarding common alchemical practices and processes, including forewarnings of potential hazards and precautionary safety measures; and
- Detailed sections on alchemical theory, the history of alchemy, and prominent alchemists and alchemical societies.
The Encyclopedia Alchema contains extensive and detailed illustrations throughout, and most sections are well-annotated and cross-referenced. However, it is poorly organized in many respects, and finding any specific information could take several minutes.
An alchemist who uses the Encyclopedia Alchema receives a +2 circumstance bonus to Craft (alchemy) skill checks made for any purpose. This bonus stacks with the circumstance bonus for using an alchemist's lab. The Encyclopedia also conveys a +2 circumstance bonus to Knowledge (any) checks pertaining to alchemy or alchemists.
