[edit] The Sun God’s Punishment

5 motes. Lore 5, Essence 3
Instant/Simple
Combo-Ok, Obvious, Holy
Any Lore Excellency

Attacks made with Perception + Lore, adding Essence in automatic successes, deals [Essence + Lore] in L damage, A against Creatures of Darkness, B against other Solars and Golden Children, is always Piercing damage.

  • At Essence 4, may target up to [Essence] targets for an additional 2m, one attack roll applies to all targets.
  • If the Solar uses this Charm during the day, and takes a full 3-tick Aim action prior to the use of this charm, double the base damage.

COMMENTS: Looking at the Lorebolts of other Exalt types, shouldn't this Charm be 1m/#L damage, with a variety of different options as to which ability to use for the attack roll? Perhaps, as Solars are the baddest asses around, it ought to be 1m/3L or 4L, perhaps even 1m/(Essence)L; either way, it certainly should have the widest range of abilities for the attack roll. But, this one is different; it flies in the face of the general lorebolt archetype. What makes the Solar Lorebolt so different from everyone else's?

[edit] Flawless Sense Recollection

3 motes. Lore 5, Essence 3
One Scene, Reflexive
Combo-Ok
Any Lore Excellency

Anything the character observes during the scene this charm is active, she may perfectly recall later. In the case of magical recollection prevention, default to Unstoppable Force/Immoveable Object.

This is also an Awareness charm, requiring Awareness 5, Essence 3 and an Any Awareness Excellency.

COMMENTS: The word 'observes' isn't very clear; does this Charm allow the character to flawlessly remember things she has heard, smelled, touched, or tasted, or is it sight-based and only sight-based? In the case of Unstoppable Force, Immovable Object, which does this Charm count as? Is it an Unstoppable Force, and thusly an 'attack', or is it the Immovable Object, and thusly a defense? Finally, like Flawlessly Impenetrable Disguise, does this Charm add any bonus to the opposed roll?

[edit] Sun-Dappled Leaves Understanding

15m, Lore 5/Essence 5
One Scene, Simple
Keywords: Combo-Basic, Obvious
Prerequisites: Drinking From The Root of the World, Immanent Solar Glory, Power Awarding Prana

As a Lawgiver is the master of Creation, so should she become a master of her own Essence. When this charm is activated, the Solar's anima flares to life and remains active at the 10+ motes stage until the charm's effect ends. While the charm is active, the Solar is considered to have Essence 10 for the purposes of charm effects, static values such as minimum damage and DVs, essence pools, and other purposes. This does not allow them to learn or use abilities that would normally be outside of their reach due to Essence requirements, but for all other purposes, they have 10 Essence.

COMMENTS: This is a comment for Drinking from the Root of the World, not for Sun-Dappled Leaves Understanding: this charm is simply broken. There's no reason for the mote regeneration, and there's no innate restricting factor associated with it, unlike all of the other mote-regaining Charms. This Charm allows a Solar to spend, say, four motes in one action and regain 20: repeat the cycle a few times while taking Speed 3 guard actions outside of combat- or even in combat!- and you'll be able to regenerate every last mote within a matter of seconds. There's no penalty for using this Charm, unlike Essence-Gathering Temper, either, meaning there's nothing to keep a Solar from comboing it and spamming it to regain motes the instant they're spent. To recap; this Charm is broken.

This is a comment for Sun-Dappled Leaves Understanding: I absolutely love this Charm. I don't think it should have such a high Essence minimum, but it gives scholars a nice edge for combat, and is very thematic. My only complaints are that the Charm does not specify whether this artificial boost of Essence counts towards the maximum the Solar may add through dice-adders, and whether it increases the number of dice that would be rolled in, say, an opposed Essence roll or similar.
