Appearance

Yun-Hsin is not the type of guy who sticks out in a crowd. He's good-looking, but not memorably so, and that's just the way he likes it. With a strong, angular face and soft brown eyes, his appearance tends to lead people to the conclusion that he is a sensitive, deep-thinking young man. The odd expressions he likes to make, however, usually lead those same people to being just plain confused. His dark, sometimes auburn, sometimes blonde-streaked, hair is styled to resemble a bird's nest daily. He never leaves his room without gelling it . Never. Wardrobe-wise, Yun-Hsin likes clothes that make him look tough. He's not a flashy dresser, so his fashion sense is pretty typical, but the only thing that really fits him in his closet is a wife-beater. His motto with clothes is the bigger they make him look, the better.

Visible Markings: A piercing in his left ear, a cross tattoo on his upper right bicep (he does his best to cover it at school), a short scar on the right side of his jaw from where his brother hit him with a toy truck.

Not readily visible Markings: His mother's name tattooed across the lower part of his left shoulder blade, a long scar on his stomach from when he had his appendix out.

Yun-Hsin's PB is Edison Chen.

Personality

He does his best to mask his nervousness with a tough face, but above all else, Yun-Hsin is shy. Maybe it's a product of moving around so often, maybe it comes out of not being able to use his first language, but if caught in a conversation with someone he's not familiar with, his mind goes utterly blank. As a reaction to this, Yun-Hsin tried to make himself look tough, or sensitive, or smart, anything but shy. With his close friends and family, he's not exactly out-going, but he's confident enough to be able to form sentences and make faces (he has an extremely expressive face and loves to make good use of it). Truth be told, Yun-Hsin is very intelligent when there's no risk of judgment or no one to impress (his tests, unfortunately, are good indicators of his anxiety) and funny, though most jokes he tells only to himself. His friends have learned to tease him for his rampant shyness, telling him constantly that he looks like a tomato or a stop-sign whenever called on in class or approached by an interested girl.

Yun-Hsin's intelligence, however fleeting, only extends to logical matters. When it comes to emotions, he is downright clueless. Unless someone screams at him or starts crying, he'll assume they're happy. Likewise, he's not good at picking up on passive-aggression, so many of the subtler relationships people have at the school fly right over his head. To him, first impressions are everything and each of his classmates get labeled by one or two traits soon after he meets them. If they step out of these boundaries, they get 'confusing' tagged on as a third and that's that. Because of this, Yun-Hsin's foot, if it's not already in his mouth, is close to it.

History

Ever since Yun-Hsin can remember, he's been in-between homes. His father, a top agent in an advertising firm, moved him, his mother and younger brother all over Taiwan. Three years in Kaohsiung, two years in Tainan, a year in Taichung, and four moving around the many districts of Taipei. But, since it was necessary for his father's career, it was necessary for the family, something Yun-Hsin's mother always tried to emphasize to her boys. The series of moves did have an effect on the children, who grew quite close while simultaneously shying away from other children. In his teenage years, Yun-Kuo began to adjust. Yun-Hsin never did.

When Yun-Hsin was ten, his mother was diagnosed with lung cancer. The doctors informed him and his father (but not Yun-Kuo) that it was terminal. Yun-Hsin spent as much time as his father would allow at his mother's bedside, talking to her, listening to her or just silently wishing that she wouldn't leave them. Seven months his mother spent in that hospital in Taipei, and as time went by, Yun-Hsin became more and more religious. His mother had never made much of her beliefs, as she was a Catholic and her husband was a freethinker, but to Yun-Hsin, she told everything he could retain. When his mother finally died, he was devastated. His father, insensitive as ever but just as hurt, moved the small family to Los Angeles so that he could secure a higher paying job. For a while, Yun-Hsin hated his father for his greed, for his unwillingness to listen, for his suffocating denial, until his feelings spent themselves and all he could think when looking at his father was "pitiful". He did his best to help his little brother grow up in Los Angeles and to cook the meals and keep the house. All this came at the expense of his social life, but Yun-Hsin never complained, only tried to look as tough as he could so his classmates would be too scared to pick a fight when he ran after Yun-Kuo, shouting, to give him his lunch.

When his father suggested that he go to Second Heaven, he was too happy to agree. Yun-Hsin did, however, make his father promise to send Yun-Kuo when the boy was old enough, though he doubts he'll follow through on the promise. During his first year at Second Heaven, Hsin goofed off like it was nobody's business. He let his grades fall, he neglected making friends, but he did turn himself into a mean swimmer and third baseman. His second year was spent studying his ass off, as his father threatened to bring him home if his grades didn't improve. For his third year, Yun-Hsin's rank is "satisfactory" and he can devote his time to art, music and sports, the three subjects he really cares about. His father will most likely lecture him about slacking off once he graduates, but Hsin doesn't really care this time around.
