Alex and Kati's "Reparations"

From Rom Com

Alex and Kati are going through the photos that they've taken. They appear to reach a conclusion about what to do--you know, they feel remorseful or something...There should be a climax where they each grab handfuls of the photos and toss them off a bridge (or, barring that, off the roof of a tall building). Sort of like the part in "Science of Sleep" when they throw the television into the river, or a less schizophrenic version of the desk scene in "A Beautiful Mind". They might get really into it and start throwing things other than just the photos.

Hallie thought I should write something, I decided to oblidge her, although she thinks this clashes with the previous characterizations and probably the intent of the scene listed above.

Wait, it turns out that there is actually another scene redunant to this one already written... oh well. I'll keep the script, though I don't know why... it almost works with the other scene, which doesn't feel like quite enough to justify the outcome, I'll let you the rest of you look at it and decide if anything's worth keeping.

Well, I think the other one was intended to be where they agreed to get rid of the photos, and this scene was intended to be mainly just them actually doing it.

But I think that the two scenes can be reconciled pretty well.

Also I'm not sure if the other scene was complete. It didn't seem that way to me, but I think Aimee wrote it, and she tends to count on camera angles and such and keep the dialogue pretty minimal. (On that note, is it clear that Dylan and I broke up? I feel like if that scene happened in my life I would assume that we were still together and just fighting a lot.)

K: Oh, is the gentleman back from his latest conquest?

A: Latest three conquests, prepare to be bes...

Alex topples and collapses on the floor, as Kati bursts out laughing. A quick camera shot shows that she's rigged a trip-wire across his path, just for the sadism of the scene. Kati then bends over to help Alex up, still laughing

K: The photos, Messier.

A: How do I know you won’t destroy them?

K: Well, I assume you made back ups.

A: I mean, how do I know you won’t destroy those?

K: Because I’m not that much of a bitch. The photos please?

A: How do I know your not that much of a bitch?

K: Would a bitch admit to being a bitch in order to get ahold of a group of photographs to which there are certainly many duplicates?

A: She would if her opponent was sexy enough. Anyway, I doubt you know where I put the back up of my back ups.

K: Oh you mean these…

Kati then reaches into her own pocket, Alex starts toward her, but instead of pulling anything out, she simply reaches inside Alex’s coat pocket and extracts the photographs. Alex startles, and with a little help from Kati, falls backward over the trip wire.

A: (muttering) bitch.

K: (looking through the photo’s) Very nice, very nice.

K: (Pauing at M’s) oh, she looks so sweet, I got her shirt off though.

A: Ah, yes, and would you do me the courtesy, Madame? (reaching his hand out as for photographs)

Katie lays a number of photos down on either and Alex’s stomach or on the ground next to him. (Alex hasn’t bothered to get up at this point)

A: It seems you’re quite good at this yourself, perhaps I could learn something from you.

K: Ah, yes, the rare compliment, worth all the effort. (obvious sarcasm)

A: Face it, in order to get what you want, you basically manipulated these people into each of their acts, there isn’t any love here. This is useless.

K: Oh, and are you any better? in addition to having no love, you also managed to screw over everyone you touch. (in a cynical tone of voice)

A: Screwing is the name of the game sister, if you get my drift.

A: still…

Alex pauses, and then stands up. Walking over to the ledge he dangles a photograph before it, and thinks for a moment,

A: I don’t know.

K: That doesn't sound very much like you

A: I know, it isn't really, I can't help but feel that there's some critical threshhold of people I'll hurt before I start caring about them... pity.

A: You know, I guess you've won, but, I don't know.

K: (extracts two other sets of alex’s photo’s) I do.

Katie takes the photographs and throws them off the edge, the camera watches them drift away

A: I guess I do to.

The camera follows the photographs drifting off the escarpment and down to the street.
