Ohnben (Modern)

From Reydala

Ohnben has many unique machines specially adapted to surviving in the desert. Most of their military force is centered around their sand ships. Ohnben machines generally have superior mobility and reliability in harsh conditions compared to comparable Kaltian or Riscanan vehicles. Though known as sand ships, many Ohnben vessels can move equally well in Reydala's oceans, and some are capable of even overland travel. Ohnben vehicles are coded first by county (OB), Purpose, then by production number.

Ohnben vehicles usually rely at least partially on solar power, one of the most abundant resources in the blazing desert. Their hulls are usually shaped to glide through sand and sea, most propelled by churning gears that grip into the sand and drive the ship forward. Smaller vehicles usually implement hover or skimmer technology. Most Ohnben craft prefer Energy weapons to Ballistic weapons due to the scarcity of ammunition in extended desert voyages and the tendency of the latter to jam when exposed to the deserts many sandstorms.

Ohnben mechanized suits usually focus on mobility and reliability. Usually they are carried by larger craft into the midst of battle and launched into the fray, but many are capable of extended missions in the desert if required (Though the pilot might be in danger if they are unable to find food or water). Most are well sealed to prevent sand-intrusion and utilize rounded shapes in their construction to avoid crevices where sand can gather. As with larger craft, the mechanized suits are usually fitted with energy weapons rather than ballistic weapons. Most Ohnben mechanized suits stand between 4 and 7 meters tall and are designed with multiple tasks in mind. Most salvage, repair, and excavation missions rely extensively on the mechanized suits

Command Ships

OB-M3 Mother ship "United Fury"

The largest navy vessel in the Ohnben fleet, and the seat of the Matron if she ever is needed away from Deloria. Only one OB-M3 exists, and spends most of its time docked in Deloria or patrolling the nearby sands. Extremely well armed and armored, the only weakness of the OB-M3 is its limited mobility due to it's great size. For dealing with fast moving targets the OB-M3 usually relies on its many vehicle bays to swamp the target while the main guns pick off the greatest threats. It is rare that the OB-M3 sees battle, but when it appears it strikes terror in the hearts of its enemies.

OB-M2 Mother ship

About two-thirds the size of the OB-M3, the previous model Mothership remains in duty supporting it's younger sibling. After the construction of the OB-M3, two additional OB-M2s were created in order to provide a stronger defensive front to the main mothership. OB-M2s are the central hubs of information in the seas of sand, and contrary to the OB-M3 are often found far from Deloria communicating orders to lesser ships. OB-M2s can hold their own in any naval battle, having powerful weapons and vehicle support, and often a cadre of other vessels with them, their sophisticated communications and sensor technologies make them superb command ships.

OB-M1 Mother ship

One of the first sandships created by Ohnben, the first Mothership was decommissioned with the advent of the OB-M2. It has since been gutted, its outer shell now housing a nautical museum in Deloria. While in service it was the undisputed king of the sand, but as technology advanced in leaps and bounds in quickly became obsolete.

Battleships, Cruisers, and Destroyers

OB-A4 Battleship

The largest produced Ohnben assault platform, its massive armament is only inferior to the OB-M3 among Ohnben vessels. Few exist due to the cost of construction and maintenance on their massive hulls, those currently in service operate closely with OB-M2s. Due to the weight of the OB-A4's weapons and extensive armor plating, the vessel has limited mobility. The OB-A4 also has no vehicle bays for support craft, so it needs to be fielded in conjunction with more mobile ships.

OB-A3 Heavy Cruiser

The most numerous assault platform in service, the OB-A3 is the perfect mix of offensive punch and maneuverability. OB-A3s are often used to circle around enemy ships to prevent escape while the slower OB-A4s smash hulls apart. Though small compared to an OB-A4, these vessels are deceptively fast and possess firepower that threatens vessels even twice their size.

OB-A2 Cruiser

Now mostly obsolete, most OB-A2s now serve behind the battle lines. Many have had their weapon systems removed and now serve as civilian ships. Those still in military service mostly serve as escorts to more advanced ships, often OB-A4s and OB-M2s. They are slower and less heavily armed than A3s, however in times of war any gun that is available is a godsend.

OB-FA3 Destroyer

Often seen on the front lines supporting A3s and A4s is the FA3, a smaller and lighter armed craft compared to the A3, but even more maneuverable and optimized against infantry, aircraft, and smaller ships. Relatively fragile, the FA3 depends on its speed and the distraction factor of larger ships nearby. Outside of battle they are primarily used for patrolling the vast expanses of sand and occasionally for internal law enforcement.
