Sarah Jane Smith-Maynard is a journalist, adventurer and saver-of-the-world. She's roughly contemporary with SJA!Sarah. She's currently travelling with the Eleventh Doctor.

In this AU, Sarah snuck back into the TARDIS after the Hand of Fear and continued to travel with the Doctor for another year or two, before an adventure in the Swiss Alps, where she ran into her aunt Lavina and an old friend, Doctor Stephen Maynard. By this time, Sarah was ready to trade the TARDIS for adventures on Earth, so she chose to stay in Switzerland. Steven hoped he could convince her to marry him, but it took another few years before she agreed.

Stephen was very supportive of his wife's career, and being one of eleven children, he was very agreeable to her desire to continue working rather than starting a family. His brothers and sisters gave them plenty of surrogate children and his family welcomed her with open arms.

They were happily married for twenty-five years, before he lost his life saving a group of school children from an avalanche. Sarah and his mother supported each other through this time, and she stayed very close to his family.

That was ten years ago, and while Sarah misses him, she's moved past the grieving stage, and prefers to remember the wonderful times they had together. Recently Sarah ran into the Doctor again, in her Eleventh incarnation, and when she invited Sarah to travel with her, Sarah decided that there was nothing to hold her on Earth, so she said yes.

This Sarah never waited for the Doctor to come back for her. She chose to leave him. She's lived her life to the fullest and has been surrounded by friends and family. Now she's back travelling with the Doctor on her own terms, and while she's older and wiser, she's never lost her youthful sense of humour and fun.
