Before
Basically? The Tenth Doctor stuck his nose in a little too far, got in a little too deep, and it blew up on him. Literally. And it turns out exploding ain't good for your gender identity.
She doesn't talk about it much.
Since then, she's wandered the universe with K-9 Mark VI and later a human called Mike (no relation to Mike Norton).
Entry Point
After leaving K-9 to keep an eye on Mike, she stumbled into a Nexus, a space between dimensions if you will, where she picked up Fitz Kreiner and Rose Tyler (again). They were just setting off for adventures and hijinks when their communicators arrived.
And now?
Since then, she's broken up a fight between her alternate Tenth self and the Master (during which she developed a rather healthy dislike for both), snogged Fitz, gone adventuring for the Key to Time with her Thirteenth self and Fitz, snogged her Thirteenth self, been drugged in the Mistress's TARDIS, and helped the Rani retrieve her TARDIS.
But what's she like?
This incarnation is playful, clever, silly, and occasionally serious and scary with a slight (mostly) harmless cruel streak. She likes scarves and jelly babies and dogs and her atmospheric stylograph, and dislikes cats. Her hair is better than Ten's.
