The staircase

You trudge up the staircase, slightly annoyed by the stubs you use for feet. The staircase seems to wind on forever, but eventually you reach the end, panting. You open the door in the ceiling only to be blinded by sunlight. When your eyes adjust, you step out onto the platform. You find yourself on the deck of a lighthouse, between the steel railings and the lantern room. You suddenly notice a girl who seemed to have appeared out of nowhere. She is singing softly to herself, gazing out across the ocean to the east. After a moment she turns to you.
"I was wondering when you were going to find me." She seems to laugh derisively.
