NewsGator

From Newt

Strengths:

What I found to be fantastic is that you can set up an online or desktop account or you could have both and they would in sync. with one another. This makes it ideal for everyone. You can also have it to work with Outlook and send emails there. The desktop version has a small window to tell you when you have new updates. I liked the fact that you had to tick something to mark it as being read or you could do this in bulk. It allows you to search for other feeds. Easy to add and organise feeds into folders. It has won several awards The desktop version was a successful paid for service, which only in the last month they have made freely available. Professional feel to the service. Real address and contact numbers. A user Forum for help. Can save clippings and make this publicy available. Easy to email a result. Can add the NewsGator icon to your own feed.

Weaknesses:

As always no real service guarantees made.

Opportunities:

To make RSS better know and used within the Uni.

Threats:

Researchers would need to be made aware that no service guarantees are given in case they lose valued updates.
