SWOT Analysis – Little Wiki

Strengths -Trying to create a niche for itself by being Shopwiki rather than competing directly with Wikipedia. Focuses on arts and crafts rather than being an online, community, encyclopedia. -Very easy to create groups but group members must already be members of Little Wiki – can’t invite via email.

Weaknesses -‘Currently there are no restrictions regarding simultaneous logins, so you can be logged into the system with the same user account on two different machines. However, edits to the same article from the same user account will not be version checked and, therefore, it is possible for the simultaneous logins to overwrite each other if editing the exact same article. We recommend individual logins for proper article history tracking and version control.’ -Clunky interface

Opportunities -It’s a niche wiki and may appeal to people, but not necessarily students as it’s focussed on commerce rather than information or education

Threats -Better, more established wikis out there (eg Wikipedia) -As it’s a beta site, there’s the issue that people may not be confident that developments are focused on the alpha site rather than this – ‘we are working on a sister project, ShopWiki, which involves wiki technology. LittleWiki is effectively a beta test of the wiki technology for that system.’
