File formats for all media

Back to the Main Technical Specification page

All file names will end in the standard three-letter file extension for that file format (preceded by a period).

The standard file extensions are:

Images: .jpg, .gif, .psd, .tif

Movies: .mov, .mp4

Audio: .aif, .mp3, .wav

Text: .txt, .doc

Flash: .fla, .swf, .flv, .as

File Format Guidlines:

Flash Formats:

.fla: Source files for individual Flash movies.
.swf: Published form of .fla files and .doc files.
.as: ActionScript files
.flv: Video files used by Flash.

Movie Encoding:

Pre-production format: .mov
Post-production format: .flv (Pre-processed videos will will be compressed using Squeeze or Flash Encoder into .flv format.)
Compression: H.264
Video quality: High
Sound quality: High

Audio Formating:

File Format: MPEG3 – 160kbps
Interface Audio: MP3 compressed no lower than 64kbps.

Images:

Pre-production format: .psd, .ai, .tiff 
Post-production format: .jpg, .gif
Vector Images will be drawn in Adobe Illustrator and Flash.
Bitmap Images will be created using Adobe Software.
All images will be optimized for the web using Adobe Software.

Text Documents:

Pre-production format: .txt, .doc
Post-production format: .txt
