The Dwarven Mountains

From Lunos

A massive expanse of stone, the Dwarven Mountains are the single largest source of metal and stone in the Rift. The name has persisted from ancient times because inhabitants of the mountains still possess the unusually small size of their ancestors. Most inhabitants are nomadic miners who roam the mountains, setting up camp whenever a particularly valuable area is found and then moving on when it become exhausted. Fairly regular earthquakes mean that the terrain is always changing over time and new deposits of minerals become available. Directly south of the Great Lake lies the city of Hiracte, actually a large network of towns built in close proximity. Hiracte is the dwelling place of the craftspeople that turn the mountain’s vast wealth into finished products. South if the city is a massive underground channel that provides much of the cities power and good chunk of trade revenue, as the channel cuts almost a week off of travel time down the Great River.
