Kestrel

From Jaggedthrone

Description:

Kestrel is obviously a merchant's son: hyper-social; over-confident. He exudes an oily charm that never quite crosses the line into officiousness. Any greeting, kind or cruel, evokes the same smile--a quick flash of white teeth that seems somehow insincere. His face is too long to be considered handsome: his cheeks are hollow; his nose, pointed like his namesake's. Though easily roused to action or emotion, nothing can banish a scarcely concealed longing from his eyes. For Kestrel is restless--ever shifting, pacing, fidgeting, fumbling. When he speaks, which is often, he twists a small threadbare square of silk between his fingers. What he wants, even he cannot say.

Kestrel is impulsive, rightly lamented his father: foolhardy and reckless. He leaps before he looks, and should long ago have learned better, but fate, skill, and luck collude to postpone the inevitable lesson. While there can be no doubt that the lesson is coming, any attempt at counsel is met with a blank stare or the same smooth smile--both of which generally fail to reassure. The prophet warned of death by water. If ever Kestrel needed advice, it is now--as the Flickering Voyage Trading Company journeys north toward the sea.

Relationship with PC's and NPC's:

Kestrel is the only (legitimate) son of Blood-From-Dust. He is the younger brother of Vashtari; the elder brother of Bright Ocean. He has lived his life traveling with the caravan, but only ever called one city home: Sand-Covers-Jade. As a child, his continued defiance of common law and common sense often placed him in conflict with Third Jaguar; more recently, his heroic defense of the city may have raised his standing with the captain of the guard.
