Southeast Asian Art Curator

Responsible for the collection of art originating from both the islands and mainland of Southeast Asia. Must have a vision for the development of this collection, make proposals for acquisitions, and implement policy with respect to the formation, maintenance/preservation and management of this sub-collection. Research the collection and pass on the knowledge acquired to as broad an audience as possible by means of general and academic publications, exhibitions, presentations, lectures, etc.


Requirements:

You have a university-level qualification in art history, archaeology or material culture of Southeast Asia.

You have experience in managing and presenting a museum collection.

You have an extensive knowledge of Southeast Asian art, demonstrated by high-profile exhibitions and publications.

You are object-orientated – you recognise the significance of or attribute significance to works of art and other objects.

You are fluent in Bahasa Indonesian, as well as English and Dutch. Old Javanese and Sanskrit are recommended.

You have an international network that covers Europe, the USA, and the countries of Southeast Asia in particular, or you are prepared to develop such a network.

Your experience includes interdisciplinary, academic and project work.


The position is for one year. After one year, the appointment may be extended twice by one year. After those three years and assuming satisfactory performance as well as unchanged organisational circumstances, the contract will be made permanent.
