About The Synergos Institute: Synergos is a nonprofit organization working to reduce poverty and promote equity and social justice for poor and marginalized communities. We bring together people, ideas and resources to achieve sustainable systems change.

Synergos builds and supports networks of change makers, convenes and supports multi-sector partnerships and develops and disseminates knowledge to help reduce poverty and promote social justice. Major projects underway involve maternal and child health care in Namibia, slum dwellers in Brazil, Tribal communities in Northwest Canada, children with HIV/AIDS in South Africa and Mozambique and under nutrition in India.

Synergos leadership networks include the Global Philanthropists Circle, a group of about 250 prominent philanthropists and social investors from more than 25 countries; the Synergos Senior Fellows Network, a similar group of accomplished and innovative social activists and the Arab World Social Innovators, entrepreneurs working in the Middle East and North Africa to achieve social progress. Additionally, Synergos partners with foundations, non government organizations, businesses, community groups, thought leaders and others who are interested in addressing the underlying causes of poverty and social injustice.

Synergos currently is working in Southern Africa, Brazil, Mexico, India, the Middle East and Northwestern Canada. We have established relationships with partners as well throughout Latin America, in East Africa, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, Pakistan and other developing countries.

Synergos always puts the community at the center of its partnerships and has a commitment to make change sustainable by building the capacity of local and regional leaders, organizations and government institutions.

Synergos is headquartered in New York and has offices in the U.S. and in Brazil, South Africa, and Namibia.

Synergos' board of directors includes leaders from the development field, business, community based organizations and government. Staff have experience working for NGO's, government agencies, international organizations, and businesses. The members of the staff are from more than a dozen countries and speak more than 20 languages.

Synergos seeks a skilled and experienced, creative and results-oriented Senior Manager to work with our networks of global leaders and partners. This person will work to catalyze and support significant collaborative initiatives that impact the systems that keep people in poverty.

The broad responsibilities of this position are to:

  • Grow, strengthen, and increase the effectiveness of individual

philanthropists and groups of philanthropists around the world who are working to tackle the underlying causes of poverty, equity and social injustice.

  • Engage in similar work with a global network of civil society

innovators, connect them to philanthropists and others engaged in systems change work and support innovative initiatives to tackle the root causes of poverty and social injustice.

  • Develop and provide services to a diverse group of clients engaged

in collaborative problem solving initiatives that benefit poor and marginalized communities.

  • Be available to maximize other opportunities that arise to advance

the Synergos mission.

  • The person we are seeking will work well within a values-driven,

entrepreneurial and results-oriented culture, have the capacity to build trusting relationships and be an innovative problem solver.

  • Bringing a global perspective, s/he should be capable of

collaborating with colleagues, partners and clients, managing complex projects and contributing to the development and implementation of strategies that advance our work.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree in social sciences,

business or other relevant discipline desirable.

  • At least seven years of professional experience related to

international development, philanthropy, consulting or corporate social responsibility.

  • Capacity to add strategic value to individuals, organizations and

businesses working on systemic change in the development field.

  • Builder of trusting relationships who can connect and network with

everyone from grassroots community leaders to CEOs to top government officials Self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset and ability to develop new ideas and opportunities.

  • Strong project management skills including building and overseeing

strategies, work plans and budgets

  • Experience generating program resources.
  • Ability to listen, learn from and teach others.
  • Experience in organizing and facilitating international workshops,

conferences and trainings highly desirable.

  • Demonstrated commitment to high ethical standards and values

consistent with those of Synergos.

  • Fluency in a second language Outstanding written and spoken

communication skills.

  • Extensive project experience or experience living or working outside

the U.S.

  • Availability for overseas travel.
