-- DEADLINE NOTE: The application cycle for the 2010-2011 Fulbright U.S. Student competition opened on May 1, 2009. The deadline for applications to be received electronically by IIE is October 19, 2009. Hard copy applications and all support documents must be received by October 21, 2009.

-- OBJECTIVES: The sponsor offers support for applicants to teach conversational English senior high school in Indonesia. Grantees will be required to perform approximately twenty hours per week assisting teachers in their classrooms, plus requisite class preparation time and school-related activities. English Teaching Assistants (ETAs) will typically teach conversational English to senior high school students at selected public schools, private schools, and Islamic boarding schools throughout Indonesia, many of which are located outside of major cities.

-- ELIGIBILITY: Eligible applicants must be U.S. citizens. Applicants should be mature and articulate graduating seniors or graduate students. No previous teaching experience is required. No Indonesian language skills are needed. Students will be provided basic language instruction in Bahasa Indonesia as a part of the orientation; all instruction is in English.

-- FUNDING: The sponsor anticipates making thirty awards. Housing arrangements will be made by the Fulbright Commission in Indonesia in cooperation with the schools where ETAs will be placed. These grants generally provide round-trip transportation; book and research allowances; maintenance for the academic year, based on living costs in the host country; supplemental health and accident insurance; tuition, in some cases; and language or orientation courses, where appropriate. Comprehensive Fulbright grants are payable in local currency or U.S. dollars, depending on the country of assignment.
