An Exchange Program For Graduate Students Between The United States and the Republic of Indonesia

-- In each of the next three years (2005, 2006, 2007) five graduate students from the United States will be chosen to study at The Center For Religious and Cross-Cultural Studies at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The language of instruction there is English. Students selected will be fully funded, four students each year for an eight-week summer semester (July/August) and one student for a four-month regular semester. The Center enjoys a distinguished international and inter-religious faculty and graduate students who are Muslim, Christian, Buddhist and Hindu.

-- Students will be fully funded for travel, tuition, and per diem costs. They will be expected to attend classes and/or pursue research projects relevant to the resources available at The Center. Those resources include: faculty from a variety of religious traditions and disciplines, an ethnically diverse student body from all parts of Indonesia, a wide variety of Non-Governmental Organizations, several excellent library collections and an abundant array of possible ethnographic projects (either individual or cooperative).

-- The deadline for applications is January 15th of each year.

-- Materials needed: An official transcript of graduate work (sent by the Records Office) A letter of interest which explains why you want to study at Gadjah Mada and what you intend to do in your eight-week or four-month stay.Two letters of recommendation from persons familiar with your academic promise.

-- Applications are not limited to persons pursuing religious studies; however, applicants must demonstrate they will use the resources of The Center For Religious And Cross-Cultural Studies for their projects.
