20th Annual Conference on Southeast Asian Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics - University of Wisconsin-Madison, July 16-17, 2010

  • The Center for Southeast Asian Studies at Northern Illinois University, in cooperation with the Council of Teachers of Southeast Asian Languages (COTSEAL), the Center for Southeast Asian Studies at the University of Wisconsin and the Mid-America Consortium for Southeast Asian Studies (MAXIS), announces that:

-- TRAVEL GRANTS OF $500 EACH will be awarded to qualified teachers of Southeast Asian languages who participate in the 20th Annual Conference on Southeast Asian Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, July 16-17, 2010.

-- The languages that are included in the category of Southeast Asian languages are: Burmese, Cebuano, Cham, Hmong, Ilokano, Javanese, Indonesian, Karen, Khmer, Lao, Malay, Shan, Tagalog, Thai, Vietnamese.

-- These awards are for teachers working in the United States. Priorities will be given to two categories of SEA language teachers.

First priority: SEA language teachers in high schools and community colleges.

Second priority: SEA language teachers in colleges and universities that do not house a National Resource Center for Southeast Asian Studies.

Other language teachers are also welcome to submit their applications.

-- The closing date for application is July 7, 2010.


Decisions on funding will be made by July 9, 2010. Payments will be issued approximately two weeks after the conference.
