Recluse is a villain of no particular affiliation.

History

Dr. Archibald Brown was ejected from the university for his unsettling experiments in toxicology. He took all his chemicals and retreated to a cabin in the woods, where he continued to try and synthesize an untraceable poison. His failures--some slightly radioactive--were emptied in the latrine out back, where they saturated into the ground. One such sample disturbed the home of a deadly brown recluse spider, which wandered into Dr. Brown's cabin and bit him, infusing him with the toxic chemicals that had filled its home. Dr. Brown squashed the spider in mid-bite, unfortunately spilling its blood into the open wounds. The combination of chemicals and spider blood mutated the doctor into a humanoid spider hybrid. The doctor took the name Recluse, and started lashing out at anyone who disturbed his home.

Powers and Abilities

As Recluse, he has heightened speed and strength, several times that of an ordinary man. He is also able to cling to any surface. Recluse can spit poison from his mouth that can induce various debilitating effects, including paralysis, blindness, acidity, and even death. He has occasionally been able to contact and control spiders telepathically, but this ability is not always present.
