Alana Morris

From Glengarryceltic

Alana is the daughter of Allan MacPhail. She is married to Cleary Morris and they have lived in Manotick for some years. Cleary comes from a large musical family in Glengarry. His father, Howard Morris, was noted for his great singing voice and he often performed at Father MacPhail’s concerts in Alexandria and at other venues. They have a daughter, Tara.

Alana took piano lessons when she was young and achieved grade 10 level. She often accompanied her Dad when she was growing up and still does when the opportunity presents itself. She is a teacher by profession and also a choir director. Her favourite fiddlers are The Barra MacNeils and her favourite tunes are “Tullochgorum” and “Neil Gow’s Lamentation for Dr. Moray.”

Her husband, Cleary, has a great voice and he, along with his brothers and sisters along with the next generation often sing the National Anthem at the opening of the Glengarry Highland Games in Maxville. Their daughter Tara is a highland dancer and also has a great singing voice.

Alana’s tunes, “Glasgow Lassie” and “Ski Sutton” were composed in honour of a fellow teacher, May Gailey who came originally from Glasgow, Scotland. They used to go skiing together at a ski resort in the Eastern Townships of Quebec called Ski Sutton.
