[edit] Description

[edit] Appearance

Nalali is a somewhat short, slender woman, wiry without much bulk to her body; unmistakably eye-catching when not hiding her appearance, she has of late taken to wearing her clothes in the style of nondescript tunic and pants, a glove covering her hand and the orichalcum and moonsilver entwined band marking her marriage. She is quick to offer a warm smile, even when threatened or postured against, deep silver eyes reflecting her care for those around her.

[edit] Backstory

Born shortly before Sol turned his face from his children, Nalali was raised to be a merchant, taught the art of trading and haggling early in life. Despite a knack for convincing others of her position, she was a bit of a failure in her tendency to give better deals than she ought to; reprimands would often be forthcoming even if it ensured repeat customers. She accompanied her father, Yuren, on his business trips trading between cities in the north, studying with the books and scrolls he'd bring for trade when on the long road trips.
It was while she was tending the cart, reading a dissertation by Salina as her father haggled with a merchant over the hiring of indentured servants, that she saw a young boy in chains being whipped for some offense or another. Flinching with every lash of the whip falling on the boy's back, she found herself standing in a daze, hopping from the cart and striding over to the immense slavemaster; she gripped the whip in his hand and berated him loudly on the needless cruelty of his behavior. He wrenched the whip from her hand and attempted to lash her across the cheek for her impudence, but the whip rebounded as if from steel. Grabbing him by his beard, she glared him in the eyes and demanded that he never again whip a servant without due cause. Whimpering some from the fire in her eyes, he hastily agreed, dropping the whip. Stepping over to the boy, she gently helped him to his feet and asked someone to take him to a doctor. Seeing the blazing concentric circles on her brow, noone objected.
Her first experiences as a Solar came as she was snidely insulted by the RPC's owner, who rudely insisted on an apology for her meddling in his domain. Given little other option, she apologized only for acting without the autority of the Deliberative, and excused herself. Over the next few years, she worked as she could to try and alleviate some of the injustices built into the system, frustrated by the ridiculous degree to which the system was ingrained. She was introduced to her Lunar mate shortly after Mirra re-Exalted, her past life having wanted little to do with the young Solar; inspired by her mate's approval on her ideas, she grew to respect, and soon love, the Lunar - even having a tail implanted, patterned after her mate's fur, as a symbol of their unified hearts.
She spent a few years building up a fair bit of wealth through oaths and clever dealings, her relative lack of business acumen made up for by her honest demeanor and persuasive tongue. She acquired the rights to the Atelier d'Mecanisme and the surrounding farmland, and with her kind approach to managing the land, doubled the profitability of its' production. She was pleased with the gradual spread of her ideals, and looked forward to seeing the full reward.
And then the Usurpation came. Mirra approached her one night, a grim look on her face, and escorted her out of the home, dodging occasional ambushes. Told that the unjust were being purged and that she should hide for her own safety until the storm ended, Nalali agreed, reluctantly, and hid as a peasant, working in the farming community that she had once managed. The storm's end never came, however - fifteen years of witch hunts, of hiding her face, and watching as the new regime seemed to follow the mistakes of the old. Once suspicion faded, she came back to her mate's home to act as a maid, hiding amongst the other servants as she pondered how to reverse the mistakes made.
Eventually, the time for deliberation ended, and the time for action came. Hearing of others positing the name of Merela without the insanity of those on the threshold, she sought to join them, to try and make a world where another Usurpation would never be needed...
