Chokepoints

[edit] Chokepoints

Chokepoints are the major areas of conflict on a map. They are where the battle is likely to ensue, usually because there is only a narrow strip of land for units to pass through. One must be especially careful when creating checkpoints, as they are some of the most important parts of the map. A bad chokepoint can effectively ruin a map, since it can lead to stalemates and reduce strategy. In addition, maps with just one choke point should also be avoided. Single chokepoints reduced the strategy of a map by forcing players to concentrate on just one aspect of the map. Single chokepoint maps tend to have just one battlefield and one way to go about controlling that battlefield: brute strength. Single chokepoints also tend to give the advantage to the first player, since they can more easily position artillery into important locations.
