Capitols

From Gamedozer

[edit] Introduction

Capitols are the most important of all buildings in Battalion. Obviously, if an enemy overruns your capital, you lose the game. Capitols also provide a defender with an astonishing 4 defense plus a health bonus, something that no other tile in the game does. On top of that, Capitols provide a hearty 3000 income every turn. Thus, capitols are an extremely important building and they can be used to create very interesting maps.

[edit] Income Boosters

Since Capitols provide so much income per turn, giving a player an extra capital is usually a good idea on maps designed to have big battles with expensive units. They are a good way to save space on island maps where a large income on little ground is required to produce ships for naval battles. If you don’t want the risk for having extra capitals, you can place capitols in the corners of a map and surround them with sea. You can also place capitols on individual islands on sea maps. Both of these solutions create income streams without the risk of having to defend the capitals.

[edit] Risky Maps

Capitols can also be used to make a map riskier. Placing a capitol far away from the rest of an army forces both players to concentrate not only on gaining income but also on staunchly defending and attacking capitals. Placing two capitols in precarious places opens a map up for all sorts of interesting strategies on both offense and defense.
