...amongst other factors.

There are 2 main groups of wetlands:

  • Estuarine
  • Palustrine

  • Flood Control
  • Storage of Water
  • Transformation of Nutrients
  • Growth of Living Matter
  • Diversity of Wetland Plants

On the average, more than 2,800 acres per year are lost.

Fish and Shellfish eat Plankton. Therefore, if Plankton Communities were removed, the fish & Shellfish species would have nothing to eat, and they would die. And from that, the fishermen would have no means for income. Also, if the fish died, many bird species would be affected. In turn, causing an unhealthy shift in the food chain.

I think this problem is more coastal, because the wetlands would flood, causing erosion and vegetation to sink and die out. I don't believe that only the Chesapeake Bay area is effected by this and I do think something should be done about this because it's destroying a habitat for many of the creatures that we depend upon for many different reasons.
