Debra Ann Dorward was born on February 1, 1954 in Norwich, N.Y., the 3rd daughter of Ralph and Marie Barbarossa. The story goes that Marie was reading a "movie magazine" and named her daughter after actress Debra Padget. Deb attended Norwich schools, graduating from high school in 1972. While in high school, she was active in sports and played on the sofball team in the position of catcher.

After high school, Deb attended SUNY Morrisville and graduated with a secretarial certificate. Her first job was at Chenango Memorial Hospital where she still works today in Management Information Systems. In her senior year in high school, Debra noticed a nice, quiet, blue-eyed cutie she hoped to date. His name was Roger Dorward. Secretly, Deb read up on motorcycles (because Roger rode one), and happened to "show up" at his brother's baseball games, knowing that he would be there. Eventually they dated and got engaged in June, 1973. They were married in August, 1974.

In March, 1977, a daughter Susan Elaine was born and then Christine Elizabeth came along in October, 1980.

In 1975 Deb and Roger moved into a home they had built on a couple of acres of land just outside of Norwich on Tanner Hill where they still live. Debra's hobbies are needlework and painting on wood and helping her husband in his woodcraft business. Several years ago she took up golf to have something to do with Roger, and they have participated in a mixed league in the past.

Deb remembers Christmas at Nona Elia's and having her first taste of anisette, the traditional company liquor, along with dandelion wine. She also remembers overnights at Nona's with her sisters and cousins.

Roger Dorward

Roger Lee Dorward was born on April 10, 1954 in Cortland, N.Y. to Dorothy and Walter Dorward. When Roger was only 4 days old, his dad died from cancer. His mom remarried two years later to Jewell Law and then they moved to Plymouth, N.Y. Roger has two brothers, Craig and Vern Law who live in New Jersey. He attended Norwich schools and graduated in June, 1972. After high school, Roger worked at the Norwich Shoe Factory for a year and then went to work for Simmonds Precision (formerly GLA, now Unison). He worked in Quality Control. Unison, like so many other companies, downsized over the period of a couple of years and Roger, after 26 years, was forced to pursue another career.

Since 1993 Roger has delved into woodworking, a hobby he really enjoys. He makes and sells everything from wooden toys to childrens furniture to custom furniture, such as coffee and end tables, entertainment units and trunks. In looking for a new full time job, Roger interviewed at Norwich Aero, as a Quality Control manager and at Commercial Display and Design, as a woodworker. He chose to use his love of woodworking and make it both a full-time and his side-line business. CD&D makes display units for businesses and Roger gets to use high quality, expensive saws and routers, which he is loving! He is in Woodworkers Heaven. His woodcraft business is called The Cellar Shop and he and Debbie travel to shows around New York State selling and taking orders. Roger's other passion is golf and finds it hard to get on the course as often as he'd like with the craft business requiring his attention, but he does manage to play in a league after work during the golf season.
