The 50,000-member Kurdistan Imperial Army consists of two infantry divisions (each with three infantry brigades); one airborne brigade (with three parachute battalions and one support battalion); two special forces (commando/counterinsurgency) brigades; two armored divisions; five independent tank brigades; and one independent infantry brigade (with three infantry battalions, one support battalion). These units are deployed throughout the country, with the greatest concentrations deployed near the capital and near the country's borders with its hostile neighbors.
