The Arab Republican Army (ARA) is the ground force of the United Arab Republic. It is the largest of the four branches of the Arab Republican Armed Forces, with over 500,000 active duty soldiers and over 200,000 reserves. It is the largest military in Africa and the Middle East.

In Egypt, the Republican Frontier Corps is a lightly armed paramilitary unit of about 12,000 men, mostly Bedouins, responsible for border surveillance, general peacekeeping, drug interdiction, and prevention of smuggling. In the late 1980s, the force was equipped with remote sensors, night-vision binoculars, communications vehicles, and high-speed motorboats. They are equipt and trained by the ARA.
