The Unicorn and the Raven/Wait to be noticed

From Create Your Own Story

You have no idea what's going on so you decide to watch as you wait to be noticed. Everyone's attention is on the view outside and you begin to feel a sense of cold hopelessness. These people aren't actually doing anything for all the blinking lights on their consoles, they're watching the view outside. Its a sensation entirely divorced from the cool air of the room and you feel it seeping into you, too.

You lean back against the wall behind you, noticing that it's surprisingly warm.

The seconds tick by, although as far as you can tell there's no clock here to measure them.

The man at the table in front of the window looks up briefly from the glowing images that he seems intent on studying. Suddenly he glances up, at someone in a chair in the center of the room in front of you and off to your right. He opens his mouth as if he were going to say something and then pauses.

Your breath catches in your throat and you're sure he's seen you. As he turned, you notice that he, like the rest of the people you can see from your vantage point, is armed with a sword, although its for the moment sheathed in a scabbard that seems to be attached to the cloth of his uniform. You wait for him to call out, to alert the others to your presence, but he seems to sigh and look back down at the glowing table again, then out of the window like the rest of them.

You sense that there's a door off to your left and you slowly inch towards, feeling along the wall behind you.

Just as your fingers reach the edge of what could be the door you're looking for, you hear a woman's voice. It might have been pleasant underneath but it sounds so tired and hopeless that its hard to tell just what it might have sounded like in another time and place.

"That's not a good idea."

Its hard to tell exactly who it was who it was who spoke, but everyone turns or looks up to look at you. Though they're all armed, nobody's drawn a sword yet but your presence has finally been noticed.
