Stay here alone and try to survive for yoruself.

From Create Your Own Story

"I think I'll sit this one out," you say. "I hope you find your husband and that everything works out though."

Cassandra crosses the floor and puts her arms around your neck. "Thank you for everything," she says, putting a soft kiss on your cheek. "I'm sorry we couldn't save your friend. I truly am."

You assure her it's alright, as much as it doesn't feel that way, and then you watch her pack a couple of bags. She assures you that it's fine for you to use anything in the apartment you need; clothes, water, food. She wishes you luck, picks up a set of car keys, and heads out. You watch through the window as she climbs into an SUV and speeds off.

You stay in the apartment until the food and water runs out. It's not more than two weeks. Then you start trying to scavenge, but with no one to watch your back, you end up in several bad spots that you barely escape. Everyday you see more and more of the infected, their sores getting worse, and everyday you start fearing is your last.

Five weeks after Cassandra is gone, you start to notice sores on your forearms and face. You try to head to the military encampment, but when you're in view, you can see they're shooting every one of the infected on site. As you drive back through the city, you see the infected have started to turn their gleeful violence on one another, and you know it can't be long before you're one of them.

Back at Cassandra's apartment, you spend some time lying on the couch, thinking pleasant thoughts. Remembering old friends, family, and happy memories. You try not to think about Melanie at all, but you've learned to forgive yourself for what happened that night. It's been a struggle, but you feel almost as peace.

You end your life with a sharp kitchen knife, slitting your wrists. Better the peace of death than what you will become. You should have gone with Cassandra.
