You sit bolt upright in the bed and turn to look. But the first surprise isn't who is sleeping with you, it's where you've been sleeping. This isn't your room! In fact, you've never seen this room. It looks something between a hotel room and a castle, with a combination of stone walls and raw wood support beams. Though you've only seen it in bad fantasy movies and documentaries about the Black Plague, you look up and stare in wonder at what must be a thatch roof. Beside the massive bed you're lying in is an ornate wooden chest, atop of which sits a burning oil lantern. A similarly ornate wardrobe is against the wall; a rough wooden table and chair are in the corner.
Where am I?
You turn slowly to the woman beside you and the question is written all over your face.
She laughs.
"Welcome," she says, brushing her long, dark hair out of her face. Her large eyes are green and glittering in the flickering light under her thick lashes. Her face is clear and clean, beautiful and inviting. Her smile belies her gentle, simple, honest nature. You are mesmerized by the glisten of her slightly moist, pink lips as she speaks the most fateful words you've ever heard.
"Welcome to Blessed Union."
