SM:Shoot the Phantom

From Create Your Own Story

You raise the gun quickly and squeeze off a shot. The phantom's cloak flaps back slighty as the bullet passes through it leaving a small unremarkable hole. The phantom reacts by letting out a haunting laugh at what it thinks is a futile effort.

But maybe you just didn't aim at the right spot?

You steady the gun with both hands and aim down the sight. You squeeze off a second shot, a third, a fourth, and keep firing until the magazine runs dry and the gun only clicks.

Your first shot nails the porcelain mask that the phantom wears directly in the forehead. It leaves a neat little hole and a spiderweb of cracks forms around it. The next shots hit its' mask too, leaving more holes in the cheek, under the eye, and where the mouth should be. The cracks continue to spiderweb across it as bright light now pours from the holes, and larger cracks.

The rest of your shots don't hit their mark but you don't think they need to anymore.

In a short minute cracks cover the entirety of the mask and it suddenly shatters. Like the light that brought you here another bright light forces you to protect your eyes for a second time.

Your eyes remain closed until you hear a voice. The voice of the phantom.

"Thank you... "

You lower your arms and find the black abyss has been replaced with a white one. A feeling of joy and warmth washes over you, the source of which you are positive is the phantom.

It is still there but has changed completely. The black cloak is gone and has been replaced with a white one. The white mask is now a black one. In the white void past the eyes of the mask you can sense a strong malevolent presence and a deep hatred... for you.

"Thank you for saving me. My twisted, corrupt side had taken over and trapped me within my mask. By breaking the mask you freed me and allowed me to trap that beast."

"What about our deal... ? I thought I had to save a human life?" you ask, while dropping the empty gun.

"You have saved me, and I was once human. The contract is valid. I will not force upon you that which you may not want. Tell me... Do you wish to live again or pass on to the next world?"

You contemplate your choice, having done all this to live, but with the offer to move on once again on the table you'll need to think hard about what you really want to do.

And not sign another damn contract.

The End: You have saved a life, and are granted the option to live again or move on to the afterlife. Your choice is up to you, and another story entirely.
