With a sudden thud, Cassie found herself lying dazed on the ground. Luckily, she had landed on grass rather than on a hard surface.
As she tried to get her breath back and figure out what happened, what looked like a squad of military personnel came running up to her. They were talking excitedly in a language Cassie didn't recognize.
Cassie felt herself all over, but there didn't appear to be any broken bones. Her back, which was the part of her body that had struck the ground first, hurt, but the fact she was able to stagger to her feet meant her spine wasn't damaged.
One of the troops, a man who seemed to be in authority, barked a sharp order. Cassie was quickly transported to a small room and set in a chair. The commander, as she assumed, barked another order and a recording of what had happened played on a monitor. Cassie clearly materialized out of thin air about 12 feet off the ground and dropped on her back.
The commander turned to her and in a harsh voice asked her a question in the language she didn't understand.
"I don't know what happened," Cassie replied in English. "One minute I was at home showering, and all of a sudden I'm falling through the air and I landed here."
Hearing her speak in English caused the commander to get on a radio and issue new orders. A few minutes later, another man entered. Turning to Cassie, he spoke in slightly accented but clearly understandable English.
"Who are you, and how did you get here?"
"My name is Cassie. I was at home showering and suddenly my body started to tingle and the next thing I know I was falling through the air. Where the heck am I?"
"You are in Jordan. You do not have a Hebrew accent, so I doubt you are an Israeli spy."
"I'm just an ordinary student who wants to go home."
The translator speaks in the language you don't understand to the commander, who has a rapid exchange with him. The translator turns back to you.
"We will keep you here for the moment, as we have no way to immediately get you home. Is there anything you need?"
